A manhunt has been launched after staff at a Ladbrokes bookmakers were threatened with what appeared to be a gun.

The armed robber stole a three figure sum of cash from the premises at the Burnbank Shopping Centre, on Burnbank Road, in Hamilton.

The robbery took place at around 6.50pm on Saturday and left staff “very shaken”, police said.

The weapon was not discharged and no injuries were reported.

The suspect is described as white, 5ft 8in in height, and of slim build. He was wearing a face mask, dark upper clothing, light coloured trousers with dark patches, light coloured footwear, and a baseball cap.

During the incident, his hood was up and he was carrying a dark rucksack.

Police said he is believed to have run off in the direction of Ann Street.

Detective sergeant Clare Curley Cambuslang CID, said: “Officers are checking CCTV and carrying out local enquiries but would also appeal to anyone who was in the area at the time to get in touch.

“Information can be passed to officers via 101 quoting reference number 2855 of Saturday, 5 February 5, 2022. Alternatively, Crimestoppers can be contacted anonymously on 0800 555 111.”
