A man has appeared in court charged with murder following a death in Stranraer.

Gary Handling was found with fatal injuries on Monday around 11.40pm on John Simpson Drive.

Emergency services were called to the scene but the 33-year-old died a short time later at Galloway Community Hospital.

A 23-year-old man, Mark Allison, has been arrested and charged in connection with his death.

He faced charges of murder, assault and attempting to defeat the ends of justice when he appeared at Stranraer Sheriff Court on Wednesday.

He did not enter a plea and was committed for further examination and remanded in custody.

Detective inspector Graeme Robertson, senior investigating officer, would like to reassure the public that officers are not seeking anyone else in connection with Gary’s death.
