A man was seriously injured and two others taken to hospital following a multi-vehicle crash on the M74.

The four-vehicle collision happened on the motorway southbound, near Bothwell in South Lanarkshire, at around 6.35pm on Sunday.

A 20-year-old man sustained a serious, but not life-threatening, injury. Another 20-year-old man and a 46-year-old woman were taken to hospital as a precaution.

Traffic was brought to a standstill as emergency crews worked at the scene. The road eventually reopened at 9.40pm.

A Police Scotland spokesperson said: “Enquiries into the circumstances of the crash are ongoing.”
