A man has been left with stab wounds after being attacked by a gang who broke into a house in Ayrshire.
The 36-year-old was at an address in Hurlford when the attack took place in the early hours of Wednesday morning.
A group of men stormed the property on Kerrimuir Avenue at around 2.30am and stabbed the victim before making off.
Emergency services were called and the injured man was taken to the Queen Elizabeth University Hospital where medical staff describe his condition as serious.
Police are now appealing for witnesses as they look to trace the people responsible.
Detective sergeant Sarah Holland at Kilmarnock Police Station said: “Our enquiries are at an early stage into this incident and work is ongoing to gather more information on the circumstances and further detail on the men responsible for this attack.
“We are keen to speak to anyone who was in the area of Kerrimuir Avenue early on Wednesday morning who heard any disturbance or witnessed anything suspicious.
“We would also ask anyone who has dash-cam or personal footage that may assist our ongoing investigation to come forward.
“There are additional police patrols in the area to provide reassurance following this incident and anyone with concerns should speak to officers.”
