A man was rushed to hospital and later arrested after a car crash in Ayrshire.

Police followed a vehicle on the A78 which failed to stop after being signalled by officers.

A subsequent collision occurred near West Kilbride and a 29-year-old man was taken to hospital.

The incident occurred around 4pm on Friday.

Police say no other injuries were sustained as a result of the incident.

The road was closed for two hours while emergency services responded at the scene.

A Police Scotland spokesperson said: “A car failed to stop when signalled by officers in Largs around 3.50pm on Friday, March 10.

“The vehicle was followed and was subsequently involved in a collision with other cars on the A78 near West Kilbride around 4pm.

“A 29 year-old man was taken to hospital for treatment. He has been arrested in connection with road traffic offences and enquiries are ongoing.

“No one else was injured and the road has now been fully reopened.”
