Man pronounced dead on road in 'unexplained' incident

A man has been pronounced dead on a Lanarkshire street after being found unconscious.

Emergency services were called to Smyllum Road in Lanark after receiving reports of a man being found unconscious around 9.45am on Saturday.

The individual was pronounced dead at the scene.

Police said that the death was being treated as “unexplained” and enquiries are ongoing.

It was confirmed that officers will remain in the area to carry out further enquiries into the death.

A Police Scotland Spokesperson said: “Around 9.45am on Saturday, December 2, 2023, police received a report a man was found unconscious in Smyllum Road, Lanark.

“Emergency services attended and the man was pronounced dead at the scene.

“Officers are treating the death as unexplained and enquiries are at an early stage.

“A police presence will remain in the area as officers carry out further enquiries.”

The Scottish Ambulance Service have been contacted for comment.
