A man is in a “serious” condition in hospital after being attacked by two men at a retail park in North Lanarkshire.

Police said the 23-year-old’s injuries are serious but not life threatening after being attacked by two men at around 12.40pm on Sunday, May 26 at a retail park in the Gartlea Road area of Airdrie.

Officers said enquiries have established that the men got into a dark-coloured Audi which left in the direction of Graham Street toward Ballies Roundabout following the incident.

The victim was taken to Queen Elizabeth Hospital in Glasgow for treatment.

Detective Sergeant David Duers said: “We are carrying out extensive enquiries into this incident, including searching through CCTV.

“The incident happened in broad daylight in a busy shopping area, so a number of people will have witnessed what happened.

“We are appealing to anyone who was in the area and witnessed the attack, or who have any information that could assist with our enquiries, to please get in touch.

“If you think you can help, please contact police on 101 quoting incident number 1713 of May 26.”
