A man has been left injured after being attacked and assaulted with a weapon outside a row of shops in South Lanarkshire.

The incident took place on Uddingston Main Street on Thursday afternoon.

Emergency services attended and the 44-year-old man was taken to hospital where he has been treated for injuries including a head wound.

Locals online reported seeing a high police presence in the area from around 2pm when the incident was first reported.

Officers investigating the incident are now appealing for witnesses to come forward.

A spokeswoman for the force said: “Officers were called to Main Street, Uddingston at around 2pm on Thursday, following reports that a 43-year-old man had been assaulted. 

“He has been taken to the Queen Elizabeth University Hospital and enquiries are ongoing.

“Anyone who has any information, or dashcam footage, is urged to contact police via 101.”
