A man has appeared in court accused of raping a woman in Glasgow city centre in the early hours of Sunday morning.

Police were called after the alleged serious sexual assault on Mitchell Street between 5.20am and 6.10am.

Officers arrested and charged Mihai-Nicolae Patran in connection with the attack.

The 32-year-old, of no fixed abode, appeared at Glasgow Sheriff Court on Tuesday and entered no plea.

He was committed for further examination and remanded in custody.

He is due to appear in court again within eight days.

Police have appealed for any witnesses or anyong with information to come forward.

Detective sergeant Gillian Nixon said: “Our enquiries are continuing and we are keen to speak to anyone who may have been in the area at the time.
