A man has died after getting stuck in a river in Dumfries.
James Carruthers was taken to hospital after being recovered from the River Nith just after 7pm on Friday.
The 48-year-old was pronounced dead at the Dumfries and Galloway Royal Infirmary shortly after.
Police are now appealing for information to the incident which was reported to emergency services after he was spotted in the water near College Street.
The death isn’t being treated as suspicious however officer are asking for witnesses to establish the full circumstances.
Detective Sergeant Nadine Scott, of Dumfries CID, said: “We’re appealing for help to trace his last movements just before he entered the water and anyone who witnessed this incident should contact us.”
