A man has died after falling ill on the summit of a mountain near Callander during an Easter weekend walk.

Emergency services were called to the top of Ben Ledi at around 2.10pm on Saturday, after receiving reports that a 48-year-old man had fallen ill.

They enlisted the assistance of Killen Mountain Rescue team, who dispatched 12 volunteers and a coastguard helicopter to assist.

Police confirmed that the man was pronounced dead at the scene.

A Police Scotland spokesperson said: “Officers received reports of a man having taken unwell on Ben Ledi near Callander around 2.10pm on Saturday, April 16, 2022.

“Emergency services, including the Killin Mountain Rescue Team, attended and a 48-year-old man was pronounced dead at the scene.

“There are no suspicious circumstances surrounding the death and a full report will be forwarded to the Procurator Fiscal.”
