A man has been arrested and released pending further enquiry after a woman was hit by a car in Glasgow.

Emergency services were called to the Bell Street area of the city, near Parsonage Square, at around 11.50pm on Saturday after a woman was struck by a red car.

The woman was taken to Queen Elizabeth University Hospital by ambulance.

Her condition had previously been described as critical.

The car involved in the collision failed to stop and extensive enquiries were launched to trace the vehicle and its occupants.

On Monday, police said a 51-year-old man was arrested and released pending further enquiry.

Sergeant Paul Mellis of the Road Policing Unit said earlier: “This is a busy area and I would urge anyone who witnessed the incident take place, who has not yet spoken to police, or anyone with information or any personal footage that may assist our investigation to contact us through 101 quoting reference number 4941 of June 10.”
