A cyclist has died following a crash involving a van in East Dunbartonshire.

Emergency services were called to the Initiative Road, on approach to Lindsaybeg Roundabout, in Kirkintilloch, at around 10.35am on Friday.

The cyclist, a 50-year-old man, was pronounced dead at the scene.

Officers confirmed that a 62-year-old man, the driver of the van, was arrested in connection with road traffic offences. He has since been released pending further enquiries.

The road was closed while crash investigations were carried out and re-opened around 6.05pm.

Sergeant Adnan Alam of Road Policing Unit in Glasgow said: “I am appealing for anyone with information regarding this incident to contact us.

“This is a busy road, and we know there were other road users on Initiative Road at the time of this road crash. Anyone that has not already spoken with, or contacted police is asked to make contact with us.

“In particular, I would ask any motorists with dash-cams who were in and around that area to check the footage as it may have captured images that could assist in our investigation.”

Anyone with information is urged to call Police Scotland via 101, quoting incident number 1118 of June 9, 2023.
