A 25-year-old has appeared in court charged with the murder of a man who was found seriously injured outside a primary school in Greenock.

Michael Beaton was found on Drumfrochar Road near St Patrick’s Primary at around 7.20pm on Sunday, November 26.

He was taken by ambulance to the Queen Elizabeth University Hospital in Glasgow, where he died a few hours later.

Police confirmed on Sunday that a 25-year-old has been charged in connection with Mr Beaton’s death.

On Monday, Alexander Paul McQuillan appeared at Paisley Sheriff Court charged with murder and theft.

The 25-year-old made no plea and was committed for further examination and remanded in custody.

He is due to appear in court again within the next eight days.
