A man and his dog have died after being struck by a car in Kilwinning.

The 79-year-old man named George Dale was rushed to hospital where he was later pronounced dead on Monday.

Mr Dale, from Kilwinning, was killed in the incident along with his dog.

Police say his family have been notified and an investigation into the crash has been launched into the crash which involved a Mazda 3.

The incident occurred on Monday around 6am on Old Glasgow Road.

 The road was closed for several hours to allow crash scene investigators to conduct enquiries at the location.

Sergeant Martin Cunningham said: “Our thoughts are very much with George’s family and friends at this time, and we ask that their privacy is respected.

“We are in the process of establishing the full circumstances of what happened and I am appealing to anyone who was in the area around the time of the incident to get in touch with us.

“If you have dash cam equipment or any other recording equipment, please check the images as the footage could assist our ongoing investigation.

“Anyone with information is asked to call Police Scotland via 101, quoting incident number 0406 of October 23, 2023.”
