A man has been left seriously injured after being struck by a car in South Lanarkshire.
The 80-year-old was on Stuart Street in East Kilbride at around 7.50am on Wednesday when he was hit by a black Renault Clio as he crossed the road near the Village Inn.
Emergency services attended and the pensioner was taken to the Queen Elizabeth University Hospital where medical staff have described his injuries as serious.
The road was closed as crash scene investigators examined the site.
Police are now appealing for information and have asked anyone who may have witnessed the incident to come forward.
Sergeant Andrew Shearer said: “From our enquiries, we know that there were several people in the area who were in the area at the time of the incident and I would urge these people to contact us as their information could prove vital.
“I would also ask any motorists with dash cam devices to check their footage as they may have captured images which would assist us in establishing the full circumstances of what has happened.
”Anyone with information is asked to call Police Scotland on 101.“
