The A77 in Ayrshire was closed southbound due to a five-vehicle crash.
Police were called to the scene near Kilmarnock on Tuesday evening shortly before 7pm.
Traffic Scotland confirmed that the road at Grassyards had been closed with all southbound traffic being directed off the carriageway.
It has not been reported how many vehicles were involved in the collision or whether anyone has been injured.
Police Scotland confirmed that one driver was issued a penalty notice for a road traffic offence.
Drivers were advised to use alternative routes. The A77 was reopened at 7.40pm.
A Police Scotland spokesperson said: “Around 6.15pm on Tuesday, November 21, 2023 officers were called to reports of a five vehicle crash on the A77 near Grassyards Interchange, Kilmarnock.
“One driver was issued with a fixed penalty notice for a road traffic offence.”
