Drivers were alerted to reports of a brush causing trouble on the Kingston Bridge on Friday afternoon.
Police were called the M8 eastbound on the River Clyde crossing shortly after midday.
Traffic Scotland warned people using the road to take care.
The object was removed by 12.55pm.
A spokesperson for Traffic Scotland said: “Got reports of a brush on the M8 eastbound on the Kingston Bridge.
“Police are attending… along with (I suspect) a road sweeper.”
Shortly after, an update was issued: “Looks like the brush that was on the eastbound M8 on the Kingston Bridge has been removed.”
