Lorry overturns and completely blocks A71 road after losing wheels near Kilmarnock in Ayrshire Colin Ross

A lorry has overturned on a major road in Ayrshire, completely blocking a carriageway.

The HGV toppled onto its side while travelling on the A71 Hurlford Road on Thursday afternoon near the Moorfield Roundabout in Kilmarnock shortly before 3.35pm.

In a photo from the scene heading west towards Dreghorn, the lorry can been seen to be missing a number of wheels.

It is unclear if there have been any injuries as a result of the crash.

The A71 is currently closed at the Moorfield Roundabout with emergency services at the scene.

Police Scotland urged drivers to avoid the area and use alternative routes.

A Police Scotland spokesperson said: “We were made aware of an overturned lorry on the A71 at the Moorfield Roundabout near Kilmarnock around 3.35pm on Thursday, March 2.

“The road is currently closed and emergency services are at the scene.”
