Emergency services are responding to a plane crash involving two people near Prestwick Airport.

Police were called to Monkton following reports of a small aircraft crash with two people onboard around 4pm on Tuesday.

Both passengers have been taken to hospital. Their condition is currently unknown.

The A719 is closed at the B739 while emergency services deal with the incident and the public is being asked to avoid the area.

Ambulance crews, two fire engines and heavy rescue equipment have been dispatched to the scene.

A spokesperson for Police Scotland said: “Around 4.10pm on Tuesday, April 23, we received a report that a small aircraft with two people onboard had crashed in Monkton.

“Police and ambulance are in attendance.”

A spokesperson for Scottish Fire and Rescue Service added: “We were alerted at 4.05pm on April 23 to reports of a crash involving a small aircraft near Monkton, Prestwick.

“Control mobilised two appliances and heavy rescue equipment to the scene where crews remain in attendance.

“Two casualties have been passed into the care of the Scottish Ambulance Service.”
