More Glasgow homes are set to become warmer thanks to a £6.8m boost.

The Scottish Government grant funding is to be awarded to the city to help home owners and tenants renting privately who are at risk of fuel poverty.

External wall insulation is the main type of energy efficiency measure being rolled out as part of the annual scheme.

The aim is to improve the energy performance of homes towards achieving an EPC rating of C or better and to reduce “energy usage and fuel costs” according to a council report.

Councillors are to decide whether to formally accept the affordable warmth programme – Energy Efficient Scotland – Area Based Schemes grant funding award for 2024 to 2025 – at a meeting next week.

Areas where properties are targeted include those which are most deprived, homes in council tax band A to C, those in mixed tenure blocks among social housing.

Neighbourhoods “where people are living in vulnerable conditions to the cold” are also included according to the report.

The report, which is to be presented to the city administration committee, added: “The programme helps to mitigate against energy price increases and cost of living challenges for owners in poor and vulnerable households.”

Commenting on how it can help with the climate emergency, the report said: “The delivery of the ABS programme can save carbon and reduce energy use to benefit the environment, contributing to the city’s net zero carbon target.”

The Sighthill TRA involves a partnership between Glasgow City Council, Wheatley Group and the Scottish Government.
