Two properties in Glasgow were evacuated after the discovery of "potentially hazardous substances" on Monday.

A man has been charged following the discovery of “potentially hazardous substances” at a property in Glasgow that led to other homes being evacuated.

Officers were called to a property on Old Shettleston Road at around 2.20pm on Monday following a report of concern for a person.

A quantity of potentially hazardous substances were found inside. Local road closures were in place for around eight hours before being lifted around 11pm.

Police confirmed that two properties were evacuated on Tuesday evening in connection with the discovery.

A 42-year-old man has been arrested and charged in connection with the incident and enquiries remain ongoing.

A statement read: “A 42-year-old man has been arrested and charged in connection with the discovery of potentially hazardous substances at a property in Old Shettleston Road in Glasgow.

“He is due to appear at Glasgow Sheriff Court on Wednesday, February 7, 2024.

“Enquiries are continuing to establish the full circumstances but there is no threat to the wider public.”
