A primary school in Greenock is to remain closed after a murder inquiry was launched into the death of a 35-year-old man on the street outside.

Michael Beaton died in hospital after being found with serious injuries in Drumfrochar Road at around 7.20pm on Sunday, November 26.

Police said Mr Beaton was struck by a light-coloured vehicle and then stabbed.

Police have launched a murder investigation into the incident which it is thought to have been a targeted attack.

Inverclyde Council confirmed that St Patrick’s Primary, which was closed on Monday following the incident, is to remain shut while enquiries continue.

Pupils have been asked to attend other schools instead.

An Inverclyde council spokesperson said: “The police cordon around St Patrick’s Primary is to remain in place so the school will be closed again today, Tuesday November 28, 2023.

“P1-6 should again report to Whinhill Primary and P7 to Notre Dame High but for an earlier 9.15am start and a 2.45pm finish.”
