A primary school in Greenock has been closed for the day after a nearby “police incident”.
Inverclyde Council revealed that St Patrick’s Primary was closed on Monday with pupils asked to attend other schools instead.
An email sent to parents from the Council’s education services said the closure was in response to an incident that took place on Sunday night.
Drumfrochar Road, outside the school, has been closed to the public with a police cordon being in place.
Parts of Broomhill Street and Cornhaddock Street where they meet Drumfrochar Road are also closed.
Police Scotland has not confirmed the nature of the incident.
STV News has contacted the force for comment.
A notice from Inverclyde Council read: “Due to a police incident near St Patrick’s Primary, the school is closed today, Monday, November 27, 2023.
“P1-6 should report to Whinhill Primary and P7 to Notre Dame High instead. Drumfrochar Road is also closed due to the police cordon. Access to Whinhill Primary is via Murdieston Street.
“School meals will be provided and the school day will finish for St Patrick’s pupils at 2.45pm.”
