A man who died after the car he was driving collided with a bus in South Ayrshire has been named by police.

John Rae’s white MG car collided with a blue-and-white Volvo bus on the A77 near Girvan around 10.30pm on Wednesday.

The 58-year-old from Girvan was pronounced dead at the scene by emergency services.

There were no other reported injuries, and police said enquiries are ongoing to establish the full circumstances of the crash.

Sergeant Christopher Hoggans of Ayrshire Road Policing said: “Our thoughts are will the family and friends of Mr Rae at this very difficult time.

“We are appealing to anyone who was in the area at the time and who may have witnessed the crash to come forward with any information or dashcam footage.

“Anyone with information should contact police on 101 quoting incident 3780 of July 13.”
