Further searches are under way after a bomb squad removed a “suspect item” from a flat in Glasgow on Monday.

Police were called to the scene on Petershill Road in the Springburn area of the city just after 10am on Monday, April 17.

Road closures were put in place in the surrounding area and residents were evacuated.

Explosive Ordnance Disposal removed a suspect item from the property, and a 50-year-old man was arrested and charged.

He will appear at Glasgow Sheriff Court on Wednesday.

As a precautionary measure, police will carry out further searches of the area on Wednesday, and officers remain at the scene.

Cordons are still in place, with partial road closures on Petershill Road, Red Road, Oatfield Street and Dykemuir Street in the Springburn area.

A Police Scotland spokesperson said that local residents were being supported by the local authority.
