Firefighters are tackling a blaze which broke out at a flat in a tenement block in Glasgow.

Emergency services responded to reports of a house fire on Polwarth Street in Hyndland at around 5.56am on Friday.

Four appliances from the Scottish Fire and Rescue Service including a high reach vehicle were sent to the scene.

Police Scotland confirmed the road between Clarence Drive and Queensborough Gardens was closed.

A spokesperson for the Scottish Fire and Rescue Service said: “We were alerted at 5.56am on Friday, April 26 to reports of a fire affecting a tenement flat on Polwarth Street in the Hyndland area of Glasgow.

“Operations Control mobilised four appliances and a high reach vehicle to the scene, where crews remain in attendance.”

A Police Scotland spokesperson said: “Around 6.30am on Friday, April 26, 2024, police received a report of a fire in a flat in Polwarth Street, Hyndland.

“Emergency services are in attendance.

“Polwarth Street is closed between Clarence Drive and Queensborough Gardens.”
