Family 'devastated' by death of dad hit by car in city centre

A 48-year-old has been charged in connection with a crash on Glasgow's George Street that resulted in the death of a man.

A family has paid tribute following the death of a man struck by a car in Glasgow city centre.

Emergency services were called to the George Street area of the city after Christopher Hanton was struck at around 10.50pm on Saturday.

The 40-year-old, from the Chryston area, was taken to the Queen Elizabeth University Hospital, where he later died.

In a statement his family said: “Chris was a devoted and dedicated husband to Lynne and loving father to Zak with many friends and family.

“We are all truly devastated.”

A 48-year-old man has been arrested and charged in connection with the incident. He appeared at Glasgow Sheriff Court on Monday,

Detective inspector Sarah-Jane Finnigan said: “At this time, our thoughts are with Christopher’s family and friends.

“We would like to request that their privacy is respected, as they come to terms with their tragic loss.”
