A man who died in a car crash in Dumfries and Galloway has been named by police.

Gary Harrison, 32, from the Preston area in Lancashire, crashed on the A74(M) near to J20 Eaglesfield northbound at around 4.05am on Monday.

Mr Harrison, the sole occupant of a silver Renault Clio, died at the scene near to Kirkpatrick-Fleming.

No other vehicles were involved.

Police are continuing to investigate the incident and are appealing for anyone with information or dashcam footage to come forward.

Sergeant Leigh McCulloch said: “Our thoughts are with Mr Harrison’s family and friends at this time.

“We are continuing with enquiries to establish the circumstances which led to this crash and would urge anyone who may be able to help to come forward.

“In particular we would be keen to speak to anyone who was on the road early yesterday morning and may have dashcam footage.”
