Driver turns self into police after hit and run with pedestrian

A man was taken to hospital for treatment and the road was closed following the incident.

A man has been taken to hospital after being involved in a hit and run in North Ayrshire.

At around 6.45pm on Tuesday police were called to reports of a crash involving a car and a male pedestrian on South Beach Road in Ardrossan.

The man was taken to hospital for treatment and the extent of his injuries is currently unknown.

The car involved in the crash fled the scene, however the driver has since presented themselves to police and enquiries into the circumstances are ongoing.

The road remains closed with diversions in place.

A Police Scotland spokesperson said: “Around 6.45pm on Tuesday, November 1, 2022, police were called to South Beach Road in Ardrossan, following a report of a crash involving a car and a male pedestrian. 

“The man has been taken to hospital for treatment. The car left the scene, however the driver has since presented themselves and enquiries into the circumstances are ongoing. 

“The road remains closed at this time, with diversions in place.”
