A domestic abuser was caught after a young boy confessed to police that he witnessed the horrific attack.

Sean Ahern, 29, punched his partner Gemma Nyguist at a flat in Glasgow’s Parkhead on January 23 this year.

The victim was also thrown against a wall in full view of the 13-year-old witness who was in their care.

Ahern and Nyguist failed to tell officers what happened when police later attended.

However the boy spoke up, leading Ms Nyguist to make a statement.

On Thursday, Ahern pled guilty at Glasgow Sheriff Court to assaulting Ms Nyguist and breaking bail.

The court heard the pair were in a relationship for four years.

Ahern became enraged after Ms Nyguist kicked him accidently while in bed around 6am.

The pair argued with each other which continued into the hallway.

Prosecutor Laura Bradley said: “Ahern punched Ms Nyguist on the head and body then grabbed her and threw her against the wall.

“The boy, who was in a bedroom, heard the disturbance and came to see Ahern assaulting Ms Nyguist.”

The boy initially left the property before returning to see the police inside.

Ms Bradley said: “Officers spoke to Ahern and Ms Nyguist who both told them that nothing had happened.

“The boy told police what he had witnessed and at this point Ms Nyguist also gave a statement.”

Ahern was arrested and later told officers: “I didn’t lay a finger on her.”

The court then heard Ahern attended the property on June 10 this year, breaching his bail conditions.

Ahern fled after noticing that Ms Nyguist was on the phone to the police.

He was caught after Ahern was heard shouting “You’re a grass” while the call was taking place.

Ahern was later traced and arrested.

Sentence was deferred until next month for background reports by Sheriff Sean Murphy QC.
