Virgin Media customers were left without their internet services after a fault brought down broadband across Glasgow.

Users reported problems with accessing services in other areas too, including Edinburgh and parts of Ayrshire, Paisley and Renfrew.

Issues began being reported by hundreds of people at around 12.25pm on Thursday.

Virgin said technicians were in the area working to resolve the fault and restore internet access to hundreds of customers.

Virgin Media said an original estimate for repairs to be completed by January 5 was incorrect and that it hoped the problems would be resolved much sooner however an exact time frame was not available.

But a spokesperson confirmed services were restored around four hours later.

Virgin Broadband, Interactive TV & V6 On Demand services were all affected.

Virgin apologised for any inconvenience caused by the outage.

A Virgin Media spokesperson said: “We are pleased to confirm that we have now restored services in Glasgow following an issue which affected some of our customers for a short period of time. We apologise to those who were impacted.”
