A main road through Inverclyde has closed in both directions following a traffic accident.
The A78 is shut at Inverkip and motorists are being diverted via Largs.
Traffic Scotland said the road is likely to remain closed for “some time”.
Inverclyde Council said the road closure is affecting local schools, with Wemyss Bay primary unable to open due to staff being unable to pass through Inverkip.
The council said staff are on the way to open the school from the other direction and a message has been sent to parents about school transport for pupils.
