Police have released a CCTV image of a man they want to trace in connection with an assault on a Glasgow-bound train.

The attack took place shortly after 10.20am on Thursday, October 24, on board a service travelling between Ayr and Glasgow Central.

The victim sustained injuries to his face and was taken to hospital for treatment.

Officers believe the man in the image may have information that could help their ongoing investigation.

He is described as around 6ft, 40-45 years old with a shaved head. He is shown in the images wearing a dark beanie hat, a camouflage jacket, denim jeans and light brown boots.

He is shown carrying a Bergen rucksack and possibly carrying fishing rod. He has been seen at Glengarnock station and at Paisley Gilmour Street station.
