Cavalier King Charles spaniels gather in park ahead of coronation

These pedigree chums had fun in Glasgow's King's Park just days before King Charles is anointed top dog this weekend.

All eyes are on Westminster Abbey this weekend for the coronation of King Charles III.

But a coronation parade of a different kind has already taken place at a park in Glasgow.

Cavalier King Charles spaniels gathered in King’s Park to celebrate their namesake’s upcoming coronation.

People across the UK are planning similar animal meet-ups over the next few days ahead of the festivities.

Donald, visiting the park with his pet Betsy, told STV News: “It’s great for spaniels to have that profile, especially this breed because they’re very regal.”

It was thanks to King Charles II that this breed first rose to prominence and they are now back in the spotlight ahead of this weekend’s coronation of King Charles III.

Owners say the dogs also share a personality with the new King.

Lisa, out walking with her friend Lindy, said: “They’re very aloof.”

Lindy added: “If it’s raining they’re like ‘I’m not going out in that’. Just typical royalty I would guess.”
