A cat was found “giving birth” after being abandoned in a crisp box in West Dunbartonshire.

The Scottish SPCA said the cat was found by a member of the public in the Tullychewan area of Alexandria and March 11.

The white and grey cat was found “giving birth” and was extremely distressed when she was found.

Scottish SPCA centre manager, Nikki Morrison, said that the cat gave birth to three kittens but confirmed that one of them was stillborn.

The cat and her remaining two kittens are receiving care from staff at the SSPCA animal rescue and rehoming centres she was brought to.

Ms Morrison urged people to contact their confidential animal helpline for support and advice if they are unable to care for pets.

“If anyone recognises this cat or has any information surrounding her circumstances, they should call our confidential animal helpline on 03000 999 999.”
