A car passenger is fighting for his life in hospital and a man has been arrested following a one-vehicle collision in South Ayrshire.

Police were called to the the B742 near Annbank in Coylton around 6.05pm on Sunday after receiving reports of a crash.

A 34-year-old male passenger of the car was taken to hospital, where his condition has been described as “critical”.

The 42-year-old driver of the blue VW Up was left uninjured.

The road was closed to allow collision investigators to access the location for further inspection.

Police confirmed on Monday that a 42-year-old man was arrested and released pending further enquiries following the incident.

Sergeant Chris Hoggans said: “I am appealing to anyone who was travelling on the road around the time of the crash to contact us with any information they may have.

“If anyone has dash cam footage, please check the images. Any small piece of detail could assist us in establishing the full circumstances of the crash.”

“Anyone with information is asked to call Police Scotland via 101, quoting incident number 2552 of November 26, 2023.
