A body has been found in the search for a missing woman.

Gillian Ballantyne, 50, was reported missing from the Banknock area of Falkirk on Tuesday.

She was last spotted on Napier Road, Wardpark Industrial Estate, in Cumbernauld, North Lanarkshire, at around 12.45pm on the same day.

Police – assisted by the force’s Air Support Unit and the Dive and Marine Unit – urged anyone with information or relevant dashcam footage to come forward.

On Saturday morning it was confirmed a body had been recovered on Friday night.

A Police Scotland spokesperson said: “A body has been found in the Cumbernauld area during searches for missing person Gillian Ballantyne.

“The 50-year-old had been reported missing from the Banknock area on Tuesday, July 6.

“Her body was found during the evening of Friday, July 9.

“Her next of kin are aware.

“A report will be submitted to the Procurator Fiscal in due course.”
