Police are investigating after a boat was set on fire causing “considerable damage” at a yard in Inverclyde.

Emergency services were called to reports of a blaze near Queen Street in Port Glasgow at around 8.30pm on Wednesday evening.

A second boat and a fence were also damaged as a result of the fire.

The Scottish Fire and Rescue Service put out the blaze and no injuries were reported.

Detective constable Laura Sokolov said: “Fortunately no one was injured but considerable damage was caused and the fire is being treated as wilful.

“Enquiries so far have established that a person wearing dark clothing was seen at the time and we are keen to speak to them and anyone else with information that could help with our investigation.

“We would also like to speak to anyone with private CCTV or dash-cam footage that could assist us.”
