Police are looking for an attacker after a shop worker was assaulted with the intent to rob in North Lanarkshire.

The incident happened around 9.20pm on July 18, at a shop on Woodside Street, Coatbridge when a male youth entered the premises.

A member of staff was assaulted but did not require medical treatment.

The suspect is described as around 18 to 20 years old, around 5ft 5in and of slim build. He was wearing a black jumper and grey and black shorts.

Detective Constable Lisa McMullen said: “Fortunately no one was injured and our enquiries are ongoing to trace the youth responsible for this unprovoked assault.

“Anyone who saw what happened is asked to get in touch and I am also appealing to those driving in the area at the time who may have dash-cam footage that could assist our investigation to make contact with us.”

Anyone who can assist is asked to all Police Scotland on 101, quoting incident number 3700 of Tuesday, July 18.
