A 57-year-old man has been charged while police hunt a second man who attacked a woman in the same area.

A man has been arrested after two sexual crimes were reported in Hamilton on consecutive days in the same area.

In the first incident, a woman was sexually assaulted by a man near Palace Grounds Road at around 5.35pm on August 28.

The suspect is described as black, aged in his 20s or 30s and around 5ft 5in tall, wearing a brown/mustard coat and a backpack.

He was last seen heading in the direction of the path towards Strathclyde Park, and police are still trying to trace him.

In the second incident, at around 7pm on August 29, a man was seen carrying out a sexual act on himself in the same area.

A 57-year-old man has been arrested and charged following this report, and police said he is due to appear in court on Thursday.

Sergeant Billy Sloan of Hamilton Police Office said: “Extensive enquiries are ongoing to trace the man from the incident on Monday, August 28.

“I would urge anyone who recognises his description or who has any information to contact police.”
