A major road in South Ayrshire remains closed in both directions due to damage that has been caused by a burst water mains.

The A77 at Kirkoswald was shut at around 3.35am on Thursday last week, after a water mains burst.

Scottish Water confirmed it had completed the repair, but the road remains closed while an assessment of the damage to its surface takes place.

Traffic Scotland has issued details of diversions in place.

The website states: “Southbound traffic from roundabout turn right on to the B7023, continue straight on to the A719, follow the A719 to Turnberry and re join the A77 southbound

“Northbound traffic turn left on to the A719 at Turnberry, follow the A719 and join the B7023 continue on the B7023 and turn left at the roundabout to re join the A77 northbound.”
