Traffic restrictions will be put in place on the M74 over the weekend as repairs are carried out.

Scotland TranServ, which is carrying out the work, said it will result in an improved surface in South Lanarkshire between junction 12 at Millbank and junction 6 at Hamilton.

On Thursday and Friday the northbound carriageway will close between 8pm and 6am each night to allow the installation of a contraflow.

The southbound on-slip at junction 10 will be closed on Saturday and traffic will be diverted to join the M74 at junction 12.

On Sunday, the southbound on-slip at junction 10 will remain closed and traffic will be diverted to join the M74 at junction 12. The M74 northbound will close at 8pm on completion of the repairs to allow the contraflow to be removed.

Andy Fraser, Operating Company Representative for Scotland TranServ said: "This is one of the most important roads in Scotland, and we hope that following our programme of work, commuters, tourists and freight drivers will benefit from these improvements for many years to come.

"We are doing all we can to keep disruption as a result of the work to a minimum and motorists can keep up to date with real time traffic information by visiting the Traffic Scotland website and following their Twitter feed.

"Advanced warning signs will also be in place to inform motorists that work is under way."
