A search is under way for an 83-year-old man who has been missing from his home in East Dunbartonshire since the weekend.

Police say they are concerned for the welfare of Matthew Bowie, who was last seen outside his home in Gleneagles Gardens in Bishopbriggs on Sunday morning

Mr Bowie's family are extremely worried as he is usually in touch regularly and no one has seen him for the last few days. The pensioner, who is described as active and fit, has never gone missing before.

He is around 5ft 8 in tall, with a slim build and white or grey receding hair. He is normally clean shaven.

Mr Bowie normally wears dark trousers, a shirt and a jumper, however it’s not known what he was wearing when last seen.

An extensive search in ongoing since he was reported missing on Tuesday and officers have been checking areas where Mr Bowie tends to travel to.

These include the canal path towards Cadder Road in Bishopbriggs, the café at Lambhill Stables and Cadder Church Hall in Kirkintilloch Road, Bishopbriggs.

Inspector Gerry Corrigan said: "Given the recent bad weather over the past few days we do have concerns for Mr Bowie’s well-being.

"I would ask members of the public to check their sheds, huts or any other outhouse buildings as Mr Bowie may have taken shelter within.

"His family is understandably very concerned and just want him home safe and well. If anyone has seen Mr Bowie or has any information as to his whereabouts, please contact police immediately."
