An elderly man has died after he was struck by a train at a station.

The incident happened at Bishopbriggs Train Station, in East Dunbartonshire, at around on Monday afternoon.

Emergency services were called to the station at around 4.30pm and the man was pronounced dead at the scene.

The incident caused delays and disruption on services from Glasgow Queen Street to Edinburgh via Falkirk and services to Inverness, Aberdeen, Dundee and Alloa.

A spokesman for British Transport Scotland confirmed that around 4.30pm, a man, believed to be elderly, was struck and killed by a train at Bishopbriggs station.

Enquiries are ongoing and they cannot comment any further on the incident at this time.
