A man has been jailed for life after murdering a father by strangling him with a scarf.

George Smith, 55, had previously been found guilty of punching, kicking and stamping on Steven Larkin before tightening the scarf around his neck.

The attack on the 45-year-old took place at Stravanan Road, in Castlemilk, Glasgow, in December 2014.

Mr Larkin was attacked inside Smith's home and was assaulted on the head and body and then dragged from the flat onto the landing where his neck was compressed by a scarf.

Smith denied murdering Mr Larkin, but a jury found him guilty by a majority verdict.

Sentencing Smith on Wednesday, judge Lord Matthews said the death had brought "anguish" to those close to father-of-one Mr Larkin.
