Stream team: Comic creator helps football club show games

Mark Millar is digging deep to help hometown club Albion Rovers and others tackle the shut-out.

Comic book writer Mark Millar is more accustomed to taking his characters to the silver screen – but the Scot has taken a break from Hollywood to assist his local football club.

The Coatbridge writer has put his hand in his pocket to fund the technology Albion Rovers need to stream games, spending £15,000 on the new Pixellot camera system.

The automated technology uses artificial intelligence and a network of cameras to cover all the action and will be used by up to 24 clubs when the Championship and Leagues One and Two return next month.

With the effects of the coronavirus pandemic still being felt, attendance at matches is likely to be seriously affected for months to come and the new system will help fans from the surrounding area or around the world watch on when the teams return.
