A pedestrian has died after being knocked down by a car in Argyll and Bute.

The 69-year-old woman was struck by a Citroen Berlingo in Oban’s Soroba Road at around 6.30pm on Thursday.

Emergency services attended and she was taken to the town’s Lorn and Islands Hospital, but was pronounced dead a short time later.

The male driver of the Citroen was uninjured.

Sergeant Alister Johnson said: “Our thoughts are with this woman’s family and friends.

“We are carrying out enquiries to establish the full circumstances which led to this incident and would urge anyone who may be able to help to get in touch.

“In particular we would be keen to speak to anyone who may have dashcam footage from the area yesterday evening.”
