Ronaldo: Former Manchester United star will captain Portugal against GhanaGetty Images

With four games again on Thursday the big talking point will be Cristiano Ronaldo’s first public appearance since his explosive interview with Piers Morgan.

The 37-year-old hit out at Manchester United, manager Ten Hagg and former teammates Gary Neville and Wayne Rooney following a poor start to the season.

He would eventually cut his contract short and will go into the World Cup without a club as he looks to can a fine career by winning the sport’s biggest trophy.

Portugal play Ghana with Uruguay taking on South Korea in what promises to be one of the tightest groups in Qatar.

Social media reactions:

‘Maybe it’s because of my name’ Belgium’s Kevin de Bruyne questions ‘undeserved’ man of the match award following their 1-0 win over Canada.

Germany players covered their mouths in protest ahead of their shock defeat to Japan.

And England players Jack Grealish and Phil Foden were filmed showing off some silky skills in training.
