Transfer Deadline Day as-it-happened: All the updates as clubs made final moves

Scottish clubs had until midnight on Friday to buy players for the season ahead.

Transfer Deadline Day: All the late business from Celtic, Rangers and Scottish Premiership SNS Group

After a summer that’s seen new signings and exits from squads up and down the country, Scotland’s clubs had until midnight on Friday to register their new signings for the season ahead, and finalise the teams they hope will bring them success in the months to come.

Here are the updates as they happened throughout the day, right up until the deadline.

Premiership champions Celtic have seen plenty of change over the summer, with winger Jota’s big-money move to Saudi Arabia the biggest sale so far, while Honduran winger Luis Palma and Liverpool defender Nat Phillips are the most recent arrivals.

Rangers boss Michael Beale has overseen a revamp of his squad, with Alfredo Morelos and Ryan Kent leaving but Danilo and Cyriel Dessers among the fresh faces in attack.

Both clubs could still be busy in the final hours.

Aberdeen have been busy with the capture of Leighton Clarkson on a permanent deal after he impressed on loan already looking like one of the best bits of business this summer. Pape Habib Gueye has arrived to add to the forward options, while James McGarry is one of a number of other signings made to strengthen the squad as they battle in domestic football and in Europe.

Hearts have said goodbye to Josh Ginnelly, Michael Smith and Gary Mackay-Steven among others but have been busy bringing new talent to Tynecastle. Alex Lowry has signed on loan from Rangers, while Kenneth Vargas, Kyosuke Tagawa and Frankie Kent are among the fresh faces hoping to thrive under the club’s new-look management structure.

Hibs have been busy but sacked Lee Johnson last week and could be busy anticipating the needs of an incoming manager on deadline day. A difficult start to the season has shown that there are still parts of the squad that need strengthening and there’s little time left to do that.

Throughout the Premiership there are deadline day stories waiting to be written. St Mirren’s strong start will have Stephen Robinson hoping the window closes without him losing any key players, while Kilmarnock may hope to add one or two to add to the feelgood factor at Rugby Park.

Motherwell have suffered injuries to the forward line in the opening weeks. Could there be a last-minute capture that fills the need for goals?

Newly-promoted Dundee have made interesting acquisitions, with Mexican pair Diego Pineda and Antonion Portales among the new recruits looking to help Tony Docherty’s side enjoy a strong season. And Ross County only secured their Premiership status with the last kick of the ball last season and may make some late signings to help them avoid a similar fate this time around.

Livingston boss David Martindale seems to put together a strong squad on a miniscule budget every year but he said it’s been particularly testing this summer. The manager expressed surprise nobody has tried to prise Joel Nouble away but says it’s now too late. Could there be a later twist in that tale?

And St Johnstone’s disappointing start to the season saw manager Steven MacLean stressing the need for new signings. Some players have arrived but in the final hours, there could be more.
